Por
tanto, mirad por vosotros y por todo el rebaño en que el Espíritu Santo os ha
puesto por obispos, para apacentar la iglesia del Señor, la cual él ganó por su
propia sangre. —Hechos 20:28 // Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over
the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of the
Lord, which he hath purchased with his own blood. -Acts 20:28
En la Parte 1 de “La Tarea del Pastor,” examinamos la
primera de las tres partes de la asignación del Pastor: Alimentar al Rebaño de
Dios. Ahora, consideramos las otras dos.
In Part 1 of “The Pastor’s Task,” we examined the first of the three
parts of the Pastor’s assignment—to Feed God’s Flock. Now, we consider the
other two.
Guiar al
Rebaño // Lead the Flock
La
segunda tarea del pastor es guiar al rebaño. Junto con una dieta saludable, las
ovejas necesitan ejercicio.
The pastor’s second task is to lead the
flock. Along with a healthy diet, sheep need exercise.
En
el Salmo 23 leemos: “El Señor es mi Pastor, nada me faltará, en lugares de
delicados pastos me hará descansar. Junto a aguas de reposo me pastoreará.” Si
todo lo que hacen las ovejas es comer y descansar en pastos verdes, se
engordan. ¡Y una oveja gorda está en peligro!
In Psalm 23 we read, “The Lord is my
Shepherd, I shall not want, He makes me to lie down in green pastures. He leads
me beside still waters.” If all sheep ever do is eat and lie in green pastures,
they get fat. And a fat sheep is in danger!
Phillip Keller fue un pastor profesional que escribió un maravilloso librito
titulado Una Mirada al Salmo 23 desde
el Punto de Vista de un Pastor.
Sus ideas sobre la vida de un pastor y las ovejas abren el Salmo 23 como una
obra maestra maravillosa. Keller dice que, dejadas a sí mismas, las ovejas son
tan rutinarias que se quedarán en un lugar y sobrepastorearán, arruinando el
pasto. Seguirán recorriendo los mismos senderos hasta que sean surcos
embarrados. Pastan hasta que la hierba se acaba, luego escarban la tierra para
desenterrar las raíces. A medida que su salud se deteriora, los parásitos y las

Phillip Keller was a professional
shepherd who wrote a marvelous little book titled A Shepherd Looks At Psalm 23.
His insights into the life of a shepherd and sheep open Psalm 23 as a wonderful
masterpiece. Keller says that left to themselves, sheep are such creatures of
habit they will stay in one place and overgraze it, ruining the pasture. They
will keep going over the same trails until they are muddy ruts. They graze till
the grass is gone, then paw the dirt to dig up the roots. As their health
deteriorates, parasites and disease take hold. So the diligent shepherd moves
the flock from pasture to pasture.
No
es de extrañar que Dios compare a las personas con ovejas. Nosotros también
somos criaturas de hábitos. A muchas personas no les gusta el cambio. Pero si
vamos a crecer, debemos cambiar; no hay crecimiento sin él. Así que los
pastores deben ser diligentes para evitar que el rebaño de Dios se vuelva
complaciente y se establezca en una rutina religiosa que no se mantenga al día
con el Espíritu Santo.
It is no wonder God likens people to
sheep. We, too, are creatures of habit. Many people do not like change. But if
we are going to grow, we must change; there is no growth without it. So pastors
must be diligent to keep the flock of God from becoming complacent and settling
down to a religious routine that fails to stay current with the Holy Spirit.
Recuerden:
Dios llama a un hombre para ser pastor. Con esa llamada viene todo lo necesario
para cumplirla. Donde Dios guía, Él provee. Dado que la tarea de un pastor es
guiar al rebaño, Dios le da lo que necesita para llevarlos a donde Él quiere
que vayan. Eso es lo que es una visión. Así que podríamos decir que “Cuando
Dios llama, Él instala.”
Remember; God calls a man to be a
pastor. With that call comes all that is needed to fulfill the call. Where God
guides, He provides. Since a pastor’s task is to lead the flock, God gives him
what he needs to take them where He wants them led. That is what a vision is. So we could say that
“When God calls, He installs.”
Esa
visión es una imagen mental de lo que Dios quiere que el rebaño se convierta;
una congregación sana, santa, amorosa y en crecimiento que realiza un trabajo
específico en su comunidad. La fidelidad en el ministerio pastoral significa
mantenerse en el curso en la búsqueda de esa visión.
That vision is a mental picture of what
God wants the flock to become; a healthy, holy, loving, growing congregation
doing a specific work in their community. Faithfulness in the pastoral ministry
means staying on course in the pursuit of that vision.
Proteger al Rebaño
La
tercera tarea del pastor es proteger al rebaño. En Hechos 20:29-30 Pablo les dice
a los ancianos de Éfeso...
The third task of the pastor is to
protect the flock. In Acts 20:29-30 Paul
tells the Ephesian elders . . .
“Porque
yo sé que después de mi partida, entrarán en medio de vosotros lobos rapaces,
que no perdonarán al rebaño. Y de vosotros mismos se levantarán hombres que
hablen cosas perversas para arrastrar tras sí a los discípulos.”
For I know this, that after my departure
savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. Also, from among
yourselves, men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the
disciples after themselves.
Pablo
habló tanto por experiencia como proféticamente. En muchas de las iglesias que
había plantado, una vez que se iba, aparecían falsos maestros. Sabía que
sucedería en Éfeso. Así que advirtió a los ancianos que estuvieran en guardia y
atentos al error. Vendrían tanto de fuera como de dentro.
Paul spoke both from experience and
prophetically. In many of the churches he had planted, once he left, false
teachers appeared. He knew it would happen in Ephesus. So he warned the elders
to be on guard and watch out for error. They would come both from without and within.
Una
de las grandes preocupaciones de un pastor son los depredadores. Lobos y perros
salvajes rondan los bordes del rebaño, esperando la oportunidad para llevarse
un cordero. Leones y otros carnívoros ven a las ovejas como presas fáciles. Así
que un buen pastor vigila para proteger a su rebaño. Su diligencia es
suficiente para mantener al lobo a raya. Pero los leones son más audaces y atacan
incluso cuando él está vigilando. Así que interviene con las herramientas de su
oficio. La vara era un arma mortal en manos de un pastor hábil. Una piedra bien

One of the great concerns of a shepherd
is predators. Wolves and wild dogs hover around the edges of the flock, waiting
for the chance to make off with a lamb. Lions and other carnivores see sheep as
easy pickings. So a good shepherd keeps an eye out to protect his flock. His
diligence is enough to keep the wolf at bay. But lions are bolded and attack
even when he is watching. So he intervenes with the tools of his trade. The rod
was a deadly weapon in the hand of a skilled shepherd. A well-aimed
sling-stone was lethal. Ask Goliath.
David cuenta de dos veces en que los depredadores vinieron a llevarse ovejas del rebaño de su padre. Libró a las ovejas de un león y de un oso. Esa experiencia lo animó a creer que podía enfrentarse a un gigante que acosaba al Rebaño de Dios: Israel.
David tells of two times when predators
came to take from his father’s flock. He delivered the sheep from a lion and a
bear. That experience emboldened him to believe he could go against a giant
harassing God’s Flock – Israel.
Pablo
les dice a los pastores de Éfeso que deben vigilar y proteger a su rebaño.
Enfrentan peligros desde afuera. Los falsos maestros son como lobos rapaces con
un solo objetivo: darse un festín con el pueblo de Dios. También enfrentan
peligros desde adentro. Algunos de ellos, los mismos hombres a los que Pablo
habló ese día en Mileto, se corromperían. El poder de su posición los
corrompería y se desviarían hacia doctrinas y prácticas destructivas que
causarían ruina espiritual.
Paul tells the pastors of Ephesus they
must keep watch over and protect their flock. They face perils from without.
False teachers are like savage wolves with one aim – to feast on God’s people.
They also face peril from within. Some of them, the very men Paul spoke to that
day in Miletus, would go bad. The power of their position would corrupt them
and they would go off into destructive doctrines and practices that would bring
spiritual ruin.
Lo
mismo es cierto hoy en día. Hay peligro desde afuera. Las sectas, los falsos
maestros, los estafadores religiosos y los charlatanes abundan. Merodean
alrededor de los bordes de la Iglesia, buscando la oportunidad para
precipitarse y estafar a la gente.
The same is true today. There is danger
from without. Cults, false teachers, religious shysters, and hucksters abound.
They hover around the edge of the Church, looking for the opportunity to rush
in and rip people off.
También
hay peligro que surge desde dentro. Lobos con piel de oveja que parecen ser
parte del rebaño pero que tienen su propia agenda. Se infiltran en la confianza
de la gente, luego lentamente empiezan a apartar a las personas de la Verdad
con palabras astutas y atractivas. Dicen cosas que suenan piadosas pero que en
realidad solo apelan a la carne. Sugerirán que aquellos a quienes Dios ha
ordenado liderar no son tan puros y santos como podrían ser. Plantan dudas en
las mentes de las personas a través de comentarios aparentemente casuales. Pero
no son casuales en absoluto; están calculados para lanzar un dardo de duda en
corazones desprevenidos.
There is also the danger that rises from
within. Wolves in sheep’s clothing who appear to be a part of the flock but who
have their own agenda. They worm their way into people’s confidence, then
slowly start to draw people away from the Truth by clever and enticing words.
They say things that sound godly but really just appeal to the flesh. They
suggest those God has ordained to lead are not as pure and holy as they could
be. They plant doubts in people’s minds through seemingly off-hand remarks. But
they are not off-hand at all; they are calculated to fire a dart of doubt into
unwary hearts.
Conclusión
En resumen, la tarea del pastor es Alimentar, Guiar y Proteger al rebaño de
Dios. Necesita centrar su trabajo en torno a esos deberes, usándolos como un
filtro para tomar decisiones y cómo usa su tiempo y energía. Después de más de
40 años en el yugo como pastor, puedo decir con toda confianza que si se hacen
bien, esos tres lo consumirán. No tendrá ni tiempo ni energía para hacer otra
cosa. Por supuesto, él es antes que nada un pastor para su esposa e hijos.
Ellos deben ser los primeros en su guía, alimentación y protección, porque son
su rebaño más íntimo.
In summary, the pastor’s task is to
Feed, Lead, and Protect God’s flock. He needs to center his work around those
duties, using them as a filter for decisions and how he uses his time and
energy. After 40-plus years in harness as a pastor, I can say with all
confidence that done well, those three will consume him. He will have neither
time nor energy to do other. Of course, he is first and foremost a pastor to
his wife and children. They ought to be the first in his leading, feeding, and
protecting for they are his most intimate flock.
Todo
esto es una forma principal para que los miembros de la iglesia evalúen a un
pastor. ¿Lidera, alimenta y protege al rebaño que Dios le ha asignado para
servir? ¿Las personas están avanzando hacia una mayor salud espiritual a través
de su trabajo?
All this is a prime way for church members to evaluate a pastor. Does he lead, feed, and protect the flock God has assigned him to serve? Are people moving into greater spiritual health through his work? Post52724
